Wyn Masters’ e-MTB endeavor at the World Championships | SHIMANO

We’re here in Mont-Sainte-Anne for
the 2019 world championships. And also the first world
championships of e-bike racing. And I’m here to race it. Not sure why… …but it’s the first
one, so let’s do it. Here we go. Once I heard the race
was going to be on… …and it’s the first world
e-bike championship… …I thought I had
to get involved. E-bikes are actually pretty
fun to ride and I enjoy them. Not sure how the event
is going to run. I hear it’s a bit of a
cross country format… …which doesn’t play
into my favour… …but luckily
there’s an engine. The rules I think for this one is that the
bike is 25 kilometers an hour limited… …and a 250 watt engine. And I’m not sure about the rest. We’re just putting a
turbo on my bike. When the turbo kicks in, I’ll
be pulling to the front. Just done one lap.
I might only get one. But it’s a pretty
sick track actually. There’s plenty of
rough sections… …the climbs are
kind of hard… …they’ll be hard in the
race, especially the start… …but there’s some good
downhill, so should be good. – Go hard! Smoke ’em on the downhills. I reckon he’s got to pace
’em on the uphills… …and smoke ’em
on the downhills. Yes, the start uphill is long… …but in the downhills he
got some passing spots… …I reckon he can
do something there. Let’s see it, come on Wyn! Well, we’ve just finished up the
first world e-bike championships… …and it was a hell of a race. It was pretty though actually. More of a cross country race… …but I hung in there… …and battled it out with some of
the big names of cross country. Absalon, the older guys… …they’re not slow. Ended up 27th and had a bit
of fun out there as well… …a few wheelies, jumps. It was fun to bring a bit of downhill
skills to the e-bike race… …all bikes are fun, I’m
having fun on the e-bike. Pretty happy to have plenty of people
yelling my name on the way up the climbs… …and down some
of the descents. Hopefully next year we’ll get more
downhill guys out here racing.
