Wiggle Honda Colnago C59 Italia Bike Profile

The new Wiggle Honda Women’s Pro Cycling
Team has made quite an impact, even before the season got underway – and part of the
hype is due to their beautiful Italian bikes. The team will be riding the highly sought
after Colnago C59 Italia, a full carbon frame that stands out from its competitors as it
uses traditional lugged construction instead of a one piece mould. This has allowed Colnago
to keep all production of the C59 in Cambiago in Italy, and give them the ability to offer
completely custom frames. The construction is unique, as is the tubeset
– bearing all the hallmarks of Colnago’s iconic Master frames from the last 40 years.
The tubes are ribbed externally and internally, with the frame weighing in at roughly 1 kg.
In the eyes of many cycling fans, an Italian frame needs Italian components, and this Colnago
delivers. It comes with a full Campagnolo 11 speed electronic EPS groupset. Rochelle
chooses a standard sized chainset but an 11-25 rear cassette – not ideal for the flat roads
of Qatar! Campagnolo also provide the wheels – the Bora Ultra Twos have a 50mm deep full
carbon rim with a traditional profile. The tyre of choice is the Continental Competition
tubs – the most popular and ubiquitous tyre in the pro peloton. Gilmore’s bike differs
from her teammates with her use of the one piece Deda Alanera bar and stem with its ultra
compact shape and narrow 40cm width. She also chooses a single layer of fi’zi:k bar tape,
and a new fi’zi:k Arione Donna 00 saddle. All in, Gilmore’s 45cm Colnago weighs in
on the GCN scales at 7.1kg – not super light but tried and tested. Keep an out eye for more bike profile videos
