Weird & Wonderful New Bike Tech | Taipei Cycle Show 2018

– It’s wacky, it’s fun, it’s crazy, it’s outrageous, it’s a whole lot of fun, but there aren’t any prizes to be won, ’cause this isn’t fun house, it’s the Taipei Bike Show and I’m on the hunt for the
most weird and wonderful tech. So, let’s go find it. (playful flute music) It’s important to remember
that for many people around the world, the bicycle represents an incredibly cost-effective and efficient mode of transport. And here in Taipei, there’s a really good shared rental bike scheme throughout the city called YouBike. Now, it’s really, really well priced. For five Taiwanese dollar, you can rent a YouBike for thirty minutes. Now to put that into context,
a thousand Taiwanese dollar is equivalent to 25 pounds,
so it’s not much at all. And these are the bikes you can rent. Well, not these exact ones,
these two are actually special edition that have
been sort of, well, vajazzled, with Favoroski crystals, to
celebrate, the rental bikes. (playful music) What do you think this is? Well, if you said “saddle,”
then you’d be right. We’ve got one on this bike down here. It’s called the All-wing saddle and it’s a very unusual
design, but the idea behind it is to completely try
and relieve the pressure that you would get on the
perineum, in the soft tissues, when you normally sit on a saddle. We actually did a video on this, size sexual health
video, and this could be the answer to that problem. If you suffer from… Gooch soreness, then perhaps this could be the saddle for you. I just tried it and it
definitely does reduce that sense of pressure at the front. But it does feel quite unusual to ride. The way it works, is by
transferring all of the pressure onto your bum cheeks, or
sit bones, at the back. But could this be a
revolution in saddle design? If so, you saw it here first. This isn’t actually a product
here at the Taipei show, it’s just a display. It’s a spinning blade, and
onto it you can project any image you like, but
it’s got me thinking how awesome would it be to
have that on your rear wheel? You could like, watch films. I absolutely love bling
stuff, and I have been drawn to the Recon stand like a moth to a flame, because they’ve got these
incredible cassettes. Take a look at these. Now this is actually machined out of a single piece of aluminum. They’re also available
in steel or titanium. And with the lockring, I just weighed it, it weighs just 118 grams. They also do them in gold. Jon Cannings, you’re
gonna absolutely love this to go with your gold chain. And to be quite honest, I pity the fool who doesn’t want a gold
cassette on their bike. Here at the Taipei show,
there’s loads of demo areas with loads of cool
exciting stuff going on. So I thought I’d come down
and represent team GCN. So I’m gonna have a go at this, this BMX malarkey, I mean,
I’ve not done it before, but, I mean, how hard can it really be? (energetic rock music) I love carbon fiber,
and I also love a brew. But fortunately, I’ve found
the perfect receptacle. Check this out, this is a carbon fiber teacup and saucer from Tune. It’s made from 3K carbon fiber, and, well it saves you five watts every time you have a
drink of tea, amazing. And, it only costs 260 US dollars. I’ll take six. (playful music) Want. This is the Diamond D Plus, and it’s made by a
company called Lowrider. It’s an e-bike that’s designed to look like a vintage motorcycle, and I think it’s absolutely awesome. Can you imagine cruising
around your local town on this? It’s got loads of really nice features. Look at the saddle, it’s like a, well, like a retro motorbike. Also you’ve got this big, really beautiful leather storage bag. And that light at the front
is just, it’s just so retro. Plus, it kind of makes me want to escape from a prisoner of war camp on it and try and jump the Swiss border. I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at the weird and wonderful
tech here at Taipei. And if you have, then
why not give this video a thumbs up and also click
the little bell icon, ’cause this will give you a notification next time we upload a
video, which will be soon, ’cause we’ve barely scratched the surface of all the exciting and cool
stuff that’s here at Taipei. And if you’d like to watch another video, then why not check out our
hot tech from yesterday. I’m going now, right.
