Vintage Cycle Restoration Viscount Gran Prix (Road Bike)

OK Welcome to another restoration this is a Viscount 1979 Gran Prix I do not know to much about this bike I do know it was made in England quiet interesting and the company originally was lambert and Viscount that was the 1970s them bikes was quiet expensive this was a later model 1979 so I think Yamaha or something like that took the company over so we have the shimano components it has a Simplex Rear gear gear system on it but yes bit of a mixed bunch its a later model so I don not think its that expensive but it does need restoring so regards to taking it back to its original state I have noticed its handle bar tape is probably the same its of a cloth material and the bracket for the light is missing needs a different saddle and well everything just needs really cleaning up its hardly moving to be honest with you yes the tyres really do need replacing a real good clean up this one I do not think its been cleaned for many many years so lets crack on and see how it comes out! OK well that the frame all stripped down everything came off fairly ok the only thing that is damaged is the bottom bracket the ring that holds the bearings them selves has perished and will need replacing for sure and yes thats it its all solid and very little rust so yes should be a good one Right ok well heres the frame all stripped down its now all ready to be put back together again all the equipment is set out on the side there I have had a few issues with a few bits of equipment first one was the crank and the pedals they was completely seized on so I had to strip the pedal down itself we had to file down one side to get a good grip then we had to lubricate it heat it up let it cool down lubricate it heat it up let it cool down that process really just repeat that process just to get the lubricant in there until it released so yes managed to free them unfortunately we have sacrificed the pedals so I have got hold of some other pedals they are with in keeping these are rat trap pedals themselves so they are within keeping with the bike its self compared to the old original ones the other thing that I have had a bit of a problem with the simplex rear gearing system the spring that is loaded in the gear had completely corroded so I have had to find a replacment Shimano rear gearing system on there and what I have also purchased is a Brooks Saddle Brooks Saddle there got some new handle bar tape I have got some nice white cloth tape it was on the bike when I received it I have also managed to get some 27″ inch and a quarter gum wall tyres for the wheels themselves the other thing I have got which was just to finish it off was this lovely crome pump so it should look really well when its put back together so lets crack on and make a start OK bikes all finished what a result its came out really well just a good deep has really changed this bike it was ready for the scrap heap im sure we have brought it back and its now ready to be ridden again from 1979 looks amazing just a bit of deep cleaning really enjoying the lamp bracket also what I didn’t mention we have these quick release wing nuts which was the first sort of quick release they are in keeping with the bike I did see these on the brochure itself so just on the front wheel and yes looks amazing it looks so much better really happy that I have done this restoration all that is left to do know though I suppose Is try it out and get it out on the road OK well this really has been a great ride a bit of a bone rattler but from 1979 to bring it back on the road and bring it back to life 36 years old who would of thought it does not look it at all but yes I have really enjoyed doing this project if you do enjoy watching the videos then please Subscribe and yes please drop us a like all the best and thanks for watching
