Trends & Talkers: King Street bike lane fines

Bicyclists get their own green lane along King Street, but some are still riding on the regular or even the sidewalk road. It could be a costly mistake and it’s what has you talking tonight. Starting last month, it has been against the law for bicyclists to be in regular lanes of traffic along King Street because riders have a lane all to themselves. And riding on the sidewalk in any business district is illegal and could result in a $72 dollar ticket. Yet, cyclists continue to do both – and that’s got you upset. Gail Heidenfeldt-Gali writes, “Well then if they do continue to ride on the sidewalks, they should get a fat fine. And if they continue to ride on the roadway and get killed, the county and state should not be liable and the families and file lawsuits!” Je’Nai Je’Nai wants to scrap the whole thing, writing, “Get rid of that now before some one gets hurt or worse !!! And it won’t take long!!!” And Avery Jamora adds, “I’m a biker, i ride the track everyday… I am gonna complain about knuckle head bikers that still ride the sidewalk and far right lanes. You making the good ones look bad. Get with the program!!” We want to know what you think of the bike lane – and the fines – head to facebook and weigh in
