Technical Mountain Bike Hill Climbing | Presenter Challenge

– [Neil] Blake, why are you
riding a big travel Enduro bike? – ‘Cause I like big
suspension but why are you on a cross country bike? – ‘Cause today is the climbing challenge – Aaahh ‘kay – Let’s see who can ride the
steepest, hardest climbs. – I’ve got one in mind, have you? – All right, let’s do it. Well mine’s two hours long though blake – Two hours? – Sorry. – We in the alps or something? (exciting rock music) I nearly took your camera (laughs) I nearly took Nick out. (laughs) (bike chain spinning) (techno music) – [Neil] Right, challenge one, a short, steep punch your way. – [Blake] Well that is short and steep. Where do we start? Do we have to draw a line
so we don’t peddling into– – Well I can just try
from here first okay? – First go. – What’s your strategy, all the power? – [Blake] All the power. – I might sit down and
twiddle it like yeah. – I’m gonna put the watts into it. – Go on man. And look great. – Add a little power (calm techno music) (laughing triumphantly) Nah, that was too easy. I reckon we could go closer but try it – All right, seat down and jog. If we get clipped in… (gasps in surprise and laughs) – Could start from this tree now. This, the line. – Ah, can I still do it
– Doable. – Do ya reckon? (both gasp) – You’re clipped in mate. – [Neil] (grunting) – [Blake] Oh! Oh! Trials. (claps) I might struggle. (calm techno music) – Too easy. – Yeah, closer? – You have to nose wheelie
your way right there. – That was good, that was good yeah. That was good. – [Neil] Nice. Let’s make it super hard. – Yeah? – All right I’m going for the
easy gear trick this time. – The only difference is, is your weight is lighter than 29’er – Ooh I don’t know about this. (oohs loudly) No. – [Blake] Oh no. Well I have a SRAM Eagle as well. – I reckon you still
need to go for a big gear and just put the power down – Monster it. It’s all about the wattage. I forgot I what my max… Wattage was. – 200 watts, something like that. – Sure Chris Hoy will
be happy with this one. Watch this. (upbeat techno) (grunts) (laughing triumphantly)
– He spattered up – I reckon you should have
another go and put a gear in. All about the power. – [Neil] Got it. (grunts) (Blake laughs in surprise) – Yaaay (claps) Should we do the dual nose wheelie nose manual down? I only got half the bike flank. Well there. What do ya reckon to that Neil? That’s quite close ay? – Yeah. First we bob there. – You got it. Got it! Got it! Aye trials. (Blake laughs in surprise) Ready… Three, two, one, hup yeah. – [Neil] Done it. (Blake screams in panic) – Yes – Nice. (peaceful jazz music) All right, we’re never gonna make it up that bank.
– No. – [Neil] Let’s try and
get off around that tree. – [Blake] Okay. – It’s flipping steep. – Three, two, one, hup, yeah, hup. (screams) (laughs) – [Neil] That was a good
effort I thought you’d– – Mate, I tried to hook
on the tree with my bar like (makes clank sound). – Ah, right. – It is steep right at the top there. Good luck. He’s got it! (both laughing) Hey, it’s steep aye? Should we give it another go? – Yeah go on. – For the viewers. Watch this. (breathes rapidly) Hup hup! – Yep… (Blake screams) no. (both laugh) – Let’s push more of this
marble stuff down for you. Good luck Neil. (bouncy jazz) Yeah! Yeah! – Bit of a shoulder barge. – Wow that was good. I see your tactics. You went wide. Three, two, one, hup, hup, hup. Easy. (shouts triumphantly) Watch this, next tree. (sighs disappointingly) – [Nick] Is it impossible?
(sighs disappointingly) That’s the question. (upbeat techno music) (grunts) (Blake laughs) (upbeat techno music) Yeah! Ohh
(Blake sighs) That was close. – It’s a cliff right here. – [Nick] It’s very steep,
yeah, on the last bit. – One more go? One more go. – Okay (Everyone laughing) – My tire got stuck on the tree. Let’s move on. We’ll come back to that one. Ow. We gotta find a techier one. Terrible. (upbeat techno) Right, now, to a bit of a longer one. Don’t reckon we’ll spin on this. Bit of a churner. – Yeah Cross country bike; should
see myself get up there. Good, I think you’ve got
this one more than me. Ready? – Easy gear. – [Blake] Look at that man. Built for the climb. Wow. – Whoa it’s loose. – [Blake] Oh wow. Oh wow. (calm techno music) (Neil screams) (Blake laughs) So is that where I have to get to? – Yeah, see if you can beat that. [Blake] Oh Neil, oh Neil, oh Neil that’s terrible. – [Neil] Yeah, almost. – No, not even close to you. – [Nick] Almost. (Blake laughs) But gallant effort. [Blake Laughs] – I’m a bit more of an
explosive kind of guy. – [Neil] You still
talking about your (bleep) (Blake laughs) – Maybe this will pop, more bloody power. Sat down peddling, what’s that all about? – [Nick] I mean, that looked better. (Blake laughs) It was more entertaining. – Neil you take this one. Can’t match that. That’s crazy. Upwards and onwards. Next challenge! Upbeat techno. I call this… The rampage. – Well yeah I like– – But you gotta get up the hill. – That’s the opposite of rampage. – Yeah, so you’re gonna pick your own run, through this boulder field, – [Neil] Yeah. – [Blake] And you gotta
get out of this canyon– – I’ll just go that way, the
way we rode in. That’s easy. – No, but you gotta go that way. – Oh. – And then there’s a dog-legged left. – Go the free road Blake. – Pick my own lane. – Go wherever you want. (Blake laughs) (Bouncy techno music) – It’s actually quite hard. There’s hidden features
under these leaves. – Taking a more measured approach. (upbeat techno music) – Good luck with that. Oh, ‘kay good job. – [Nick] God. – Again. – Okay – But that’s the end right there. So close but yet so far. (calm techno music) – [Neil] Oy, he’s done it. (calm techno music) – Oh, it’s that rock! But it’s
the challenge that you have to get out of this chasm right? (calm techno music) I messed up. – Turn around and go up there. – Yeah, he’s found it, he’s seen it. I’m gonna go as far as I can here, turn around and just peddle my ass off. – Go on then let’s see it. (happy electric guitar) – Nice. Yeah. – Got it. Ahh. It’s so off cover there. (laughs) Oh this is hard. We’re stuck Neil. We’re never getting out. I think we’ve met our match. Matchmaker. The climb of shame. Till next time, you horrible chasm. (exciting techno music) – ‘kay, you gotta ride up
that little bank over there. – Yeah. – And then your front wheel
can’t touch the ground until you get to the
top of that bigger bank. You’re gonna have to go in fast to get a front wheels atop of there. – To top all you have to– – Yep, over the top that roof – You have to summit with your rear. – No, as long as you
can get it up and over. – All right, I’ll watch you first. It’s a challenge, okay? So, whoever gets there
first wins the challenge. It’s not all about winning. All about having fun. (Blake gasps) You clipped out here! – Oh my god – [Blake] Whoa, that was crazy. You clipped out. (peaceful techno) – [Neil] Yep, nice one. (peaceful techno) – [Blake] Oh, you’ve got it, you got it. (Neil grunts) (Neil sighs) (Blake laughs) I changed gears. – We’re gettin’ it fast though. – Yea. I’ll let you into a little secret. Gear changing whilst wheelie-ing. (happy techno music) Yeah! (happy techno music) That’s a good challenge though. Nice. Well done Neil. (whooshing) – Well we got a trials section now. You need a bit of speed
into this bottom hole, up that pretty treacherous climb, – [Blake] Up there, yeah – [Neil] turn left, come out
right, through the bottom hole, and then back up this step. I don’t know which bike
this is gonna suit but. – Wow. I don’t think it’s down to the bike Neil. I think it’s down to the rider. – It’s not about the bike. – [Blake] It’s not about the bike. Go on Neil, watch that rock. (calm techno music) What!? (calm techno music) God, that is tech through there – [Neil] That’s the hard bit.
– That is the hard bit. ‘Cause there’s a double step, look. (exciting techno music) – [Neil] That is hard, that step. (exciting techno music) Ooh, he’s done it. (Blake laughs) – It wasn’t pretty but he’s done it.
– No it was not pretty. (fun techno music) – [Neil] Whoa, whoa (Blake laughs) I was gonna head backwards. – [Blake] I thought you were going down. – I drifted. Slid trying to come in. – Yeah you slid around that turn. (Exciting techno music) – [Neil] Nice. – Ooh! (everyone laughing) I nearly took your camera out. (laughs) I nearly took Nick out. (laughs) He’s stuck. (laughs) Go on Neil. (exciting techno music) Steady’ll work. – [Blake] Yes, Yes! (claps) Well done! (claps) Nice. Okay, so I’m gonna try and
go inside of the stump, not on the outside. A bit gnarly yeah? (exciting techno music) (both Whoa) Yeah, I got it. Go on Neil. (exciting techno music) Aww – Aww It skid. (exciting techno music) Nice. (Blake gasps) Ohhh. You don’t wanna crash down that. (Both yell angrily) I like your double tap. You let go. – [Neil] Yeah, feels fine
I’ll just go a little wider. (exciting techno music) Oh nice. Yep. Nice one. – Not pretty – Nice one, made it. – Nice challenges aye? – That was good fun. – I’ll tell you what, it doesn’t take much for both bikes to compete
against each other on a climb. – They’ll both do it wouldn’t they? – I think this one, you
gotta put a little bit more effort in. – Lucky you got them
big legs then isn’t it? – Mhmm – All right if you wanna
see how to descend anything click over just the side of
this screen for that one. – Yeah, and after me, taking out, nearly, the cameraman Nick, click over here for a trials bike challenge video. – Like Chris, very nearly hit us, himself. Balls to the crotch, we say. – And then into his bum. – Yeah. (both laugh) Don’t forget to hit the globe to subscribe and give us a thumbs up. – Thumbs up! – See ya!
