Team Joseph takes brand new triathlon bike for a spin

well a father and son duo is gearing up for the slow triathlon but with the help of Cal Poly engineers and that’s because the son has severe cerebral palsy KSBY news reporter Megan Healy joins us with the specialized technology Megan Richard a team of Cal Poly students completed the third and final piece of team Joseph’s triathlon equipment that allows him to safely compete alongside his dad it’ll turn back and forth and I was saying that say if this is hooked up to your bike and your bike crashes and rotates over this tastes completely upright that’s Joseph a brand new customized bike trailer it’s tailored to all of his needs but his father John says the most important part is safety and it’s a limited market out there for individuals like Joseph that has faced so many challenges and what Cal Poly has done each device is is so unique and it was built just for Joseph and the more you get to know him you know he lives for movement and motion first came the Aqua bullet then the running jogger and now a bike trailer all three adaptive pieces allowed Joseph to safely cross the finish line the bike trailer features special locking mechanisms and padding something the previous trailer lacked almost no matter what happens I feel so safe and that that was our main criteria and yet it’s still comfortable for Joseph and it’s it’s a little bit lighter too and that helps Cal Poly advisor for team Joseph’s project Sarah Harding says experience is beyond rewarding how Paulie really enjoyed seeing Joseph once again just laughing and smiling and as he was riding in the trailer at our expo and it’s an emotional experience for the students I think it’s how they learned that engineers pedis at Ferris community John says the SLO triathlon is their biggest event of the year and they are so thankful for everyone’s help and whether we bike whether we we run it’s there’s no limits now this will be team Joseph’s fifth triathlon John tells me he and Joseph train every day and this final piece helps fulfill their need for speed live in the studio making Healy KSBY news all right Thank You Megan the try is a half-mile swim with a slow swim center 15 mile bike ride along orchid road and 5k run around Terrace Hill it takes place Sunday July 22nd
