Spin Class at the YMCA with Alicia


– Oh my gosh, so we’re here at the YMCA. This is the facility at Lowell,
and we are at a spin class. – Woo-Hoo! – See, classes. And this is Alicia. Alicia, how do you say your last name? – Pal. – Pal, like “you’re my pal.” – Yeah, like “hey, pal.”
– Like “hey, pal.” Okay, and she is an instructor
here at spin classes and she tells me this is
great for your health. – It’s great cardio and it’s
fun and you come together and you want to keep coming back! – Fun! – And you burn a ton of calories! – Well okay, a ton of
calories, that’s good. Work off all the calories that I ingested during the holidays. – Yes, but mostly fun. It’s like– – And why is it fun? – Because there’s great music
and you’re sort of dancing and riding and sweating
altogether at the same time. – When I’m dancing I’m usually
not on a bike, girlfriend. – See, but there’s so
much more you could add to your dance routine. – Yeah, okay, well we’ll
just see about that. – Okay. – And why else would one do a spin class? Just cause it’s fun? – It’s fun. You have this nice meter on these bikes that shows you how many
calories you’re burning, how many miles you’re riding,
how hard you’re working, so it’s a little more
informational than riding outside on a regular bike, and there’s no traffic! – No traffic. Well yeah, I am afraid of traffic. – And no lights! – Yeah, and I’m afraid of other bikers, but that’s another thing entirely. – There’s also no coasting. Yes, there will be no coasting. You’ll be working the whole time. – Okay see, I was there and
then I’m not there anymore. Alright, well we’ll just check this out. – We’ll get you on there. (incoherent coaching voice) – Get on that saddle! Push, push, push! You’re doing great! You’re doing great! Stand for as long as you can. A little faster, give me
five wide millions, come on! Go, go go! Yeah, all the way! Relax your upper body. Relax the base of the neck. – Oh, it’s the best thing you can ever do! – [Voiceover] Why? – It’s fantastic, perfect exercising. – Well, that was kind
of amazing and intense. If you want exercise classes and spin isn’t quite your thing,
they offer everything here. I actually joined because I
wanted to take dance classes, of which they have
everything from bollywood to jazz and ballet so, you know, why not? That’s it for now! Exercise here in the
