Review: Stromer ST1 T Electric Bike

Hi I’m Brett from The New Wheel. We are a San Francisco electric bike shop. Today I’m with the Stromer ST1 T. This bike is an
evolution of the ST1 platform. It’s really Stromer trying to refine and
simplify the ST1. It’s a speed bike so it goes up to 28 miles per hour and it’s
got a really participatory drive system that I’m really excited to tell you
about. The standout feature on the ST1 T is the transmission. So in the back
you have the top level Shimano XT 10-speed derailleur and in the front you have
a brand new Schlumpf Drive. This is a two-speed internally geared bottom bracket which
you operate with your heal. You basically click the plate in the front and that
shift you from low to high gear. What that allows Stromer to do with this bike is
really clean up the handlebar and add a real participatory ride feel. The
experience of riding a bike with a Schlumpf drive is really unique and really cool. The touch points on the bike are upgraded over the ST1 Elite or Platinum. You have really comfortable ergonomic Ergon grips that are lock on so they don’t rotate. You have an Ergon saddle as well for additional comfort. The bike comes
standard with lights, fenders and a rack. It’s the first ST1 to come this way. You
also have fantastic platform pedals that you’ll find on the ST2. The brakes
system is a new Tektro hydraulic disc brake. One cool feature of these is the
gauge you can see what the oil content is of the master cylinder and like all
Stromer ST1’s it comes with the Schwalbe Big Bend tires and really durable carbon front fork. The ST1 T is equipped with the power 48 drive. This is a high-speed 28 mile per hour drive system. It a little lower torque then the mountain 33 drive
that we find on the Elite, but for a little bit stronger riders or riders
who have a long distance commute it’s fantastic. If you’re a little bit more and you like to ride fast this is a good drive for you. Like all the ST1s you operate the bike at the handlebar. You’ve got a controller on your right hand side that can track your trip distance your odometer and assist level. You’ve got regenerative braking on the rear brake So when you touch that and the battery’s below 75% you will actually add power back into the battery. Again shifting is very
simple on the site because of the new Schlumpf drive; so you can have a full gear range with just one handed shifting. The bike comes in two frame sizes: 20 inch and 17 inch. It doesn’t come in the comfort low step frame. It comes in one color: this bronze is what they’re calling it or a dark brown and it has a really nice
gloss finish. In person it looks fantastic So who is this bike for? The ST1 T is
built on the sort of rock-solid reliability of the ST1 platform so if
you’re looking for something that you can rely on every day for riding this is
definitely it and it now come standard with a 540 watt hour battery, so the highest capacity battery for the ST1. For long distance riding not having to worry about range
it’s gonna be you know it’s going to be fantastic. 30 to 50 miles to a charge. We’ve got these bikes on the floor so you can come in and take a test ride. We’ll go out with you
and take you up the steep hills and the flat so you can really test out the
features. Especially you’re gonna want to test out the new Schlumpf drive and see how it works. We’ve got twelve months deferred
interest financing that you can apply for in the store or online and
it can be really your go-to day-to-day commuter
bike. So I encourage you to come in for a test ride!
