Review: Kalkhoff Integrale 8 Electric Bike

Hi I’m Brett from The New Wheel. We are a San Francisco electric bike shop and I’m with the Kalkhoff Integrale 8 today.
This is a brand new bike from Kalkhoff. It really is the culmination of a lot of
the design and integration work that Kalkhoff has been doing over the last
five years. So the Integrale 8 is a fantastic urban commuter bike. It’s a
Class 1 electric bike which means it goes 20 MPH but it shares all the same basic design and integration features as the Class 3 S11. I’d also recommend watching that video as well because you can learn some
important details about about the Integrale series. With this system
they’ve improved a number of features and brought it all together. So the
number one thing is the integrated battery that is now in the down tube, so
a really clean aesthetic, and the motor is also an improvement over the Impulse
2.0 system so it’s not only a little bit more powerful but it also is more
connected and harmonized with the frame. You get not just a really comfortable
bike but the most sporty Kalkhoff bike we’ve ever carried. Like all Kalkhoff bikes,
the Integrale 8 gives you the possibility of having a really upright
riding position. The new stem on the Integrale electric bike is fully adjustable but extremely stiff and that combined with the air suspension fork and the large
format tires gives you a really really comfortable ride. The wheel set on the
bike is really top notch: it’s using a brand-new DT Swiss ebike rim that is
stronger and stiffer than your standard DT Swiss rim and specifically designed
for the higher loads and higher speeds of the ebikes. The tires that comes standard on all of the Integrale bikes are Schwalbe Big Ben tires; they are a balloon tires
that you can run at a low pressure for greater comfort but they’re also
extremely puncture resistant. It’s a 20 mile per hour bike, it has a Shimano
8 speed hub and it also uses Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. The Gates Drive is
unique because it doesn’t wear out at the same rate as a chain does because
it’s using carbon fibers to hold the whole system together, because there’s a
lot more power running through the transmission The Impulse Evo drive is an advancement over the Impulse 2.0 system: it offers more power higher torque, and the integration is
even tighter than before. You can expect between fifty and a hundred and twenty
miles to a charge depending on the assist level that you ride with. So in line with
the integration that Kalkhoff is rolling out with the Integrale comes a brand new
console and interface with your phone. The new console is a lot cleaner
display, it’s a lot more legible than before, and there’s more customization
that’s possible. There’s a new iPhone and Android app you can download on your device and that communicates with the console and sends turn-by-turn
navigation directions so that instead of having to pull out your phone constantly and see where you are when you’re on a long tour or just commuting and trying to find a new place you get directions right on your screen. All of the Kalkhoff bikes come standard with lights, fenders and rack. Both the Integrale bikes have a similar
dual beam front headlight. It’s one of the brightest headlights we have
on any of our electric bikes and it gives you great confidence when you’re
riding at night at high speeds. Overall this is gonna be a bike that is
extremely durable the performance is fantastic – Climb absolutely any hill – and the range means not only can you go really far on a charge, but you don’t have to charge it very often. So if you’re looking for a rock-solid urban commuter bike, please stop by the
shop. We are open every day 11am to 7pm and you can take the Integrale 8 for a spin!
