Review: 2018 Riese & Müller Homage Electric Bike

Hi, my name is Karen Wiener from The New
Wheel in San Francisco in Marin County. I’m here today with Riese & Müller’s
Homage. The Homage is probably the only full-suspension step-through bike out
there. At least, it’s the only one I know of. There’s a sort of awesome trinity
that comes together in this bike. You’ve got a step-through bike
that’s easy to get on and off of. You’ve got full suspension that gives you
control on the road and really helps you stick to wherever you are.
And then of course, you’ve got unparalleled assist that helps you get up
any hill any time. What that means is that, you know, this is really the
road-less-traveled bike. It’s the bike that you’re going to be out
going somewhere and notice a new path or a new road that you’d like to explore.
You turn down that road, and you know what, you never look back.
The Homage is made for you in Germany, just outside of Frankfurt,
and it’s made in a very, very wide spectrum of
component sets. So you can get the bike in different speeds,
so either in a 20 mile an hour version that is excellent for exceptionally steep
hill climbing, or a 27 mile an hour speed version. It’s available in three
different drive train types. You’ve got Shimano XT,
which is a derailleur that gives you really sporty, quick, classic shifting,
an NuVinci, which is actually an indexed-free shifting system,
where you just tune it to be a little bit harder or a little bit easier.
Super intuitive and also you can shift when you’re stopped,
so that you can shift to a little bit of an easier gear to get started again.
Finally, you can opt for a roll off, which is known in the bicycling world as
the broadest range of gears, from very low to very high.
It’s an internally-geared system, super reliable, and made in Germany.
All of the bikes have the option of upgrading to Fox 34 suspension
for the front suspension and the middle suspension. The bike that I’m
standing here with is the GT model with a NuVinci gearing system.
What GT means is that it’s a plus-sized tire, a 27-and-half inch wide
tire, which gives you nice adherence to the ground, and kind of a level of
stability that’s just fantastic. The frame is available in this red color,
white, or black. The bike comes standard with front and rear lights, fenders,
and a rack. You’ll notice that the rack is actually built into the frame,
creating a really nice line through the bike, and enabling a
fully-functional high-capacity rack on a full-suspension bike,
which is actually a really unusual thing, and allows you to go touring or go on
super long trips on this comfortable full-suspension adventure bike.
The design and engineering of the Homage gives it a real sense of gravitas,
control, and fun. So if you’re looking for a bike to get on, go adventure,
have a good time, see what there is to see, you got to come and test ride it.
It’s available at The New Wheel to try, and I know
it’ll make your day. ♪ [music] ♪
