Mountain Bike Suspension Parts & Maintenance : Tires for Mountain Biking

With the rear tire I have on this bike, it
has a fairly limited application. As you can see, this tire is pretty much the ultimate
when it comes to rolling resistance. It’s what you call a semi-slick tire. It’s just
got these little herringbone-style knobs, very low side knobs, and just these little
knobs everywhere. You’d think a tire like this would be really scary to ride, but because
someone’s put in hundreds of hours designing this thing, all these little knobs deform
and give you a lot of traction. And the reason I run a tire like this is because it’s really
fun. It helps me climb faster, it rolls faster everywhere, and when I’m really riding hard,
it makes it easier for the back end to just sort of naturally find the line and sort of
drift around without a lot of excessive force on my hands — and heavy-handed braking and
stuff like that. But that’s the type of tire that I would choose for just a general riding.
