Mountain Bike Maintenance : Remove a Flat Tire from a Bicycle Wheel

So now the next step is going to be pushing
all around the bead of the tire to unset it. The tire tries to naturally hook to the bead
of the rim you can see that there is a annotation in there and you can also see the outline
of the tire. This specific tire is designed to ride 2 wheels if you want to it got a very
stiff strong bead that really welds itself pretty well. So I’m just moving around on
the other side trying to unseat the bead. I’m doing a pretty good job. Some folks who
are real strong can simply take the tire off by picking up one side of the bead and pushing
around and as you can see I actually have unseated the beat there and I can continue
with pushing in and sort of tare the tire off the rim. Most people don’t have that skill
or ability so I’m going to show you how to safely remove your tire using a tire lever.
These are sold in package of 3 there is a lot of different brands and that make tire
levers in the market. My favorite one’s are these wide plastic levers a little bit of
a spoon to them they are by a company called Pedro’s they slide really well and they rarely
pinch your tube which is one of the hassles that can occurs. You can see the valve stream
is over here I’m starting opposite of the valve stream with my removal cause that is
the most slack usually in the tire and then I just simple push my tire lever around and
there we go. We are off so now I’m going to pull out a tube, set it aside, then I’m doing
the same thing I was doing earlier just pulling the bead off the rim so I’m pushing up and
then over and simple just removing my tire from my wheel.
