In Between The Races with Thömus RN Swiss Bike Team | SHIMANO

The track in Val Di
Sole was quite cool. It was proper mountain bike. The uphills were at bit
too steep for my taste… …but the downhills
I really liked. They were fast, some jumps. I think for the spectators it
was great, also for the riders. – For me the start
went really well. And then I had to drop back a
bit, at the end I finished 15th. It’s OK, but the result was
not really what I wanted. – After the race we normally do
our cool-down, have some food… …and then we go and
cheer for Mathias. Watch the men’s race… …and it’s really cool to
see him going that well. He’s in a super good shape
and it also motivates us. It’s super good for the whole team
to have him riding on the top level. – We’re traveling a lot
together, so there’s a bond. You’re interested in the results
and in the race of others. When you see him racing and doing that well
you can also get some positive stuff… …and you can also
learn from it. You see how he prepared and how
he does the race and that’s good. After the race we straight went Sunday
evening to a vacation apartment. And then we did our rest day, some
easy spins and some training. – We enjoyed the mountains, we slept
in and had an easy day, easy spin. – Katherin and I have been
team mates since three years. It’s not only being team mates,
it’s also being friends. We’re good friends, we
train a lot together… …and it’s just cool to have
another woman in the team. And one you really understand. We’re good friends and
we’re good team mates… …and I think we’re supporting
each other the best way we can. – I think that’s also one of
the successes of our team… …we really get along
with each other well… …it’s like a big family. We’re going for a
mini golf tournament. – It might be in between the races, but
we’re not mini golfing every week. It’s cool to have some fun in
between the serious racing. In between two world cups,
or four races in one week… …that’s pretty hard for
the body and the mind. And then you can turn off a bit
and forget about the racing… …and then focus again on the
results and the races coming up. – Hey, good morning, come in. On Tuesday I did the longest
training of the week. I’m already a bit recovered from
Sunday’s race in Val Di Sole… …and there’s still a lot of time until
the next world cup in Lenzerheide. Now I go for a ride on the
mountain bike for three hours. Spin the legs a little bit,
loose everything up… …the muscles and everything,
to get really smooth. I’m still tired. Didn’t recover so well
yesterday probably… …but it was a good training. To ride here is always
good, in the mountains. Tired, but happy. I definitely take
care of what I eat… …it’s the fuel for my body. If the body is not working
like it should be… …then the training
is for nothing. Then I took a lunch and
a short power nap. Afterwards I went on a flat road for
a short spin with the road bike. That gives you really loose
legs, it’s really good. It gives you speed, but it’s not so
demanding, this kind of training. Now I have to go,
the rain is coming. See you later. It’s important to have
time off a little bit. Away from the whole circus. There are so much emotions
before the race… …before a world cup
or during a world cup. So you have to set back
your mind a little bit. It’s really important
to recover. – I’m Ralph Näf, team manager of
the Thömus RN Swiss Bike teams. I was a rider myself, I
was a pro for 13 years. It was always my dream. We go as close as
possible to them… …because then Thömus has
space to walk around… …and we can make the door
to walk in, in the front. I always wanted to
have my own team. To create something, to
create a team with my ideas. First my dream as a pro and after
my dream as a team manager. The first coffee I always give to the guys
I know that are not really sensitive. As a team manager you are involved
in everything a little bit. In the material, in
the rider side… …and also creating how your
team looks, who you work with. I check with the riders that
they can reach their goals. I check the lines with
the girls and boys… …I do the tactics with
them in the race… …so I’m really tired on
Mondays, but I really enjoy it. – The Lenzerheide world
cup is our home race. There are always so many spectators,
it’s a big show for us. We have an extra motivation
boost to go really good here. – I love the track here. For me it’s a good track
to perform the best I can. That’s what I’m going
to do this weekend. – We check the course, check
the track, check the lines. I always go with the girls on Thursday
to see where we have to ride… …or what changed from
last year to this year… …and it’s a good chance
for me to ride the bike. – The track in Lenzerheide
is quite rooty. There are a few jumps… …you are always pedaling
and always pushing… …there’s not really
time to recover. – World cup weekend here in
Lenzerheide, on Swiss home soil… …is really important for us. We have all our sponsors here… …the riders want to be perfect
in front of their home crowd. There’s a little bit more
tension, you feel it. But for us it’s good,
we love the track… …we love to ride in
the Swiss mountains… …and it’s really a good
place to show what we can do. – Here, it’s important. – So we go one more token. – Yes, and less air. – We’re on 85 now, we’re on
85 psi and three tokens. – Yes, come on we try it. – So we go one more token… – …because we don’t
actually need the travel. – For us it’s a real important
day, we have big goals. We want that our riders can do
their best race of the year… …fight for podiums… …help to create
fast and nice races. So if we can fight for the win and
podium places, I’m really happy. – My goal is to bring
myself to the limit… …that I can fight for a
podium, or even for the win. For me it’s important to take my
best performance of this weekend. – Mountain biking is my passion and
I really love to ride my bike… …to get out in nature. It’s cool to be out with friends and
have one passion everyone loves. – You meet good people
all around the world. I couldn’t live without it. – This is something that
means very much to me… …and it fills my life besides
my family with happiness.
