How to bunny hop a mountain bike for beginners

One of the most useful things you can learn how to do on a mountain bike is bunny hopping. Or, just “hopping” really. Hopping will get you up things, over logs… You can have a lot of fun in the street, and a lot of fun on your commute. The first thing you want to do is put your seat down because it’s going to get in your way. Once you get good you can put it back up. Then, you want to learn how to manual, which is just popping your front wheel off the ground. Keep doing it. Eventually manualing will be muscle memory. When you feel really comfortable you can go into a full hop which is a matter of pushing your bike forwards at the peak of the manual. As you grow more comfortable, you can suck your feet up a little bit
to get the bike out of the way. Actually, this has nothing to do with clipped pedals. You can actually do this on platform
pedals and it makes no difference. Here I’m showing you can land front
tire first or back tire first when you’re jumping
over something. Generally with mountain biking it’s acceptable to land front tire first
because you’ve got a bigger wheel base than a BMX, plus a shock. But
if you’re hopping over something big and land front tire first, you may end up
going over the bars. So only do this on small logs and stuff. As you get better you can jump up bigger
things. Once you get that front tire up on the
obstacle you want a hop on to the back tire generally follows, as long as you push forward hard enough. Start on small things and work your
way up. This is not necessarily for safety, but for the sake of your back wheel. If you “case” the object you’re jumping you’re gonna get a flat tire and your rim is gonna get fucked up So start small, and work your way up. If you have a spare bike you can learn on that too. Also, DON’T do this! That’s just how we’re gonna leave
off here. Pulling your bike up all at once like that looks terrible. You’ll look like a pussy at the trails. Learn to bunnyhop like a boss. Anyway, thanks for watching and have fun.
