How To 180 A Mountain Bike | MTB Skills

– Welcome back. Today’s
all about how to 180. I’m in a skate park today,
but all you need, really, is a flat surface, a bike,
and your bike skills. I’m gonna talk you through the
whole process on how to 180. (uptempo music) (exploding sounds) So you can do this trick
on any bike out there. You can do it on the bike
you’ve got right now, if it’s a full-suspension, or a hardtail. I’d recommend a hardtail as
they’re a little bit more easier to throw about, and you’re
not gonna get that sag. Also, flat pedals are a must. Clips are a little bit more difficult. So my most important tip
when it comes to the hop is the bunny hop. Make sure you’ve got that dial, because if you don’t have that dial, you’re not gonna get
around. You need the hop. The way you wanna spin, left or right, depending on which way you want to. I like to go right. (uptempo music) So you’ve worked out
which way you wanna spin, the next step is initiating that hop 180. The best way for this is
to carve, and easiest way, is to carve in the
direction you wanna do it. Pre-load your whole bike,
push your bike into the ground to give you that extra little bit more pop when you’re hopping. Right, now the spin. It’s
all about the upper body, and the lower body working together. When it comes to the upper
body, you’re using that to pull your bars around,
and twist your shoulders. A little tip, look 180. So, look at the floor behind you, and that will help you with the twist. The next bit is using your
hips, so this is a key part. Use your hips to bring that
big rear end of your bike around 180. So, literally, like
you’re on the dance floor and you’re moving your
hips, you’re jiving. Twist your hips to get
that back end around, and then you’ve landed
the 180. You’ve got it. So you’ve come in, you’ve hopped 180, and you’ve landed backwards,
but don’t freak out. Because you can just
hit the brakes and stop, or, if you wanna go backwards, faking, then lean back into your
bike and use your hips to move your bike around. Feather brake, don’t speed up. Right, that is my tips on how to hop 180. If you’re struggling, let me
know in the comments below. Give me some questions,
and I’ll try to answer every single one of them. But if you’re struggling with
the bunny hop, like some do, click down here to learn how to bunny hop. Oh, and all them sideways landings? Your wheel might be doing this. Click down here on how
