How Not To Wash Your Mountain Bike After A Ride

– [Narrator] How not to
wash your pride and joy, we recommend that you do not
follow most of these practices. We had to show you how not to do it, so you don’t learn the hard way. This is for your
entertainment purposes only. – Oh man, look my bike’s still muddy. At least it’s all dry, it’s
gonna flake off super easy. What’s the worst that could happen. – [Narrator] What are you doing Blake? Never wipe dry mud off
your bike with a sponge, always keep it moist when
you’re cleaning your bike, especially if you have
a nice sparkling bike. When you wipe dry mud off your
bike and it gets into the sun when it’s dry, it’s just
gonna look all scratched and horrible, don’t wash your bike dry. – Wow what a trail. – Oh look at the beach dude – Oh the beach! Whoa yeah look at all that
mud, is this sand or what? (screams) – Heave it, I mean GMBN normal bikes. (upbeat music) What a fun ride. – Bit muddy though – Yeah – Can’t wait to get back in that warm van. – Yeah, you’re not … – I’m just gonna chuck it in there. – No, you’re not puttin’ it in like that. – Why not? – Do you know how sort of clean I am? I like to be clean, you
don’t, you’re like … – Okay, have you got any
cleaning products then? – Yeah I got a few things in
the back that we could use. Here let me just grab ’em out quick. I got a broom here. – Right. – See, just do that. – Oh, that looks alright. – That will sort of make the back of the van better, you know. – [Narrator] The rough brush, yes you can use this on your
tires to remove that thick mud, but all over your bike is going to cause a lot of scratches to it. So, please do not use
it all over your bike, wait ’til you get home. – As Blake was cleaning his
bike earlier, he decided to leave it dry, which
for me is not a good idea. That’s why I like to crack a
Moni and put it on your bike, this way your bike is
wet, and then you grab a bristly brush, and do that you see. Look at that, Moni and brush
is the best way to clean. Wow, look at that. – [Narrator] No, no, what the hell? Where there’s crackin’ a
Moni, throwing a coffee, or if you have a full bottle
of electrolytes in your bottle cage, by splashing it all over your bike, yes, it’s gonna get rid of the mud, but it’s gonna leave your bike in a sticky, horrible, gooey mess. Try and avoid this at all
costs, wait ’til you get home so you can wash it properly. – Hey Sam, do we wash
the bikes quick before before we put them in the van?
– yeah, let’s to do that for sure. (breaks squeaking) – Tell you what, jet
washing makes easy work. – Jet wash is the best for it. (whimsical music) – [Narrator] Sure Jason might
have proved that a jet wash isn’t as bad as you think, but are you really going to take the risk? I jet wash once in a while is okay, but avoidin’ the continuous washing, especially getting close
up in those bearings. When it comes to cleaning
your bike as well, putting it upside down is a
mean thing to do to your bike. It’ll cause all that dirt to collect in those contact points. Plus, you’ll miss all those crucial points where you need to keep clean. – Awe, that was so good, so, – Whoa, what’er you doin’? You ain’t puttin’ that in
with all that mud on there. – Where am I gonna wash it? – No, go and wash
– Oh yeah, I know, – it somewhere
– I know where to do it. I’ll do it down in this water. – Well like, that’s the sea though. (soft upbeat music) – [Narrator] Blake, no don’t. Awe, as tempting as it is to
dunk your bike in the sea, do yourself a favor and
avoid it at all costs. This is a quick way to
potentially corrode your frame components and destroy your paint. (upbeat music) – Oh. (laughter) – Whoa Blake, look at this huge puddle. Wash our bikes? – Yeah. – My bike stinks.
– Yeah man, let’s do it. – It’s gonna be so good. – [Blake] How we gonna,
(water splashing) Oh yeah. – [Narrator] Throwing
it into a pool, lake, or a body of water, as tempting as it is, tryin’ avoid this one. You do wanna keep your bike clean, don’t use the murky old
pond, it’s not gonna keep your bike clean, and it stinks. – That’s way better. – Yeah that was lovely. – Now we can put them in your van, clean. – Yeah, let’s go to another spot. – At least we don’t have to wash it when we go back to the house. – [Narrator] Thank you
