Graham Weigh Vintage Road Bike Restoration

Hello Welcome to another bike and another Restoration this is a Graham Weigh some people may recognise it I did put a question out and asking for your help with this one So we are finally here Who are Graham Weigh? well, I will tell you they are based in Deeside in the UK its a shop It did used to be called Deeside Cycles they have been around for a very long time Graham actually took the shop over and that is where you have got the name Graham Weigh from the other information I found out on a couple of forums was that a Gentleman called Paul Donohue used to build frames for them as well and yes they are very lovely frames this is a Columbus Tubing and its a Campagnola Groupset there are a couple of items missing like the rear Brake calliper is missing so it is not a full Groupset but we asked the question what should we do Salvage the Groupset Or should we restore the frame The frames actually got a few rusty bits on here the general view is to strip the bike down and try and repair the frame itself have a look at the rust so that is exactly what we are going to do and I will show you that process so without further a do lets get this bike stripped down and have a look at this frame lets get cracking Right, OK well theres the frame all stripped down It has been a real job this one a lot of seized parts and rusty parts so yes it has been very difficult I still have the bottom bracket in if you have not noticed so I am going to have to take that somewhere to try and get that out I have tried everything So yes I am going to have to take it somewhere and hopefully get that out if we do not manage to get this out well then it really will be a new frame and we will have to restore just the groupset so fingers crossed we manage we manage to get it sorted Well we have managed to release the bottom bracket it has damaged the frame but I have got a solution for that so we are going to continue and clean this frame up Well, Good News The Frame now is Rust Free and is very structurally sound so extremely happy about that however it does leave us with one small problem if you have not noticed the frame now has no paint So what we are going to do is respray the frame entirely I have managed to get hold of the original decals for the frame so very happy about that Graham weigh Cycles very good service So, big thank you to them what we are going to do to start off with I have sanded the frame down and then used a Karust Solution to prevent any further Rust happening on the frame itself What we are going to do now though is wipe the frame down with a white spirit or a turps to remove any grease from any finger marks etc and then im going to heat the frame up and also the can aswell to help the spray adhere to the frame so lets get this place sheeted up and protected and get cracking getting this frame back to A1 condition OK, fantastic! Very excited about this one now The frame has came out extremely well and looks so much better than when it first came in the decals have really set the bike off I could not help myself to put one on the top bar there but yes it looks extremely well I have also added a bottle cage that I had very in keeping with the colour scheme of the bike and you may have noticed I have put in a bottom bracket it is a special bottom bracket for any barrels that are damaged so it just bolts together, screws together it is a great solution for the problem that we have had and it works like a dream so yes, I have bought a couple of items to finish this bike off first one was a Rolls Saddle very in keeping with the time but if you remember the old saddle was damaged kept it black to keep the feel of the bike with the colour scheme the same and I have also bought and I have also bought a couple of Campagnola Chorus Brake Callipers as well so very happy about them and I have also got a couple of Aero retro Pedals just in keeping and with nice white straps as well so yes all that is left to do now and it is the most exciting part and its been a lot of hard work to get to this point and I feel it is going to be very rewarding so lets get a move on and get this bike back together brilliant well what a result it looks so much better than when it first came in the bike was not even functional it was full of rust and the groupset has polished up really well loving the brake callipers just finishes it off and keeps it all Campagnola groupset yes very happy there is one little item to finish it off as we always do and its a water bottle just a white classic one at that just finished it off with the white bar tape Yes it looks absolutely great so very happy with this so all that is to do now is to get it out and try it out Well, this has been the Graham weigh project and what a project its has been we have such a long way compared to how the bike came in and what it looks like today i would like to thank all the viewers that did help out with this project regards to which way we should take it I feel it was the right decision to keep it original and its all Italian now with full Campagnolo groupset looks absolutely fantastic I am sure you will agree very happy with the Rolls saddle and the new brake callipers we bought and I really feel as though we have really brought this bike back to life so if you do enjoy watching these videos as I always say then please Subscribe other than that then drop us a like and Bye for now!
