GMBN’s Ultimate List of Christmas Gifts For Mountain Bikers!

GMBN’s Ultimate List of Christmas Gifts For Mountain Bikers!

– Christmas is the time for giving – And it can be so hard
to get a gift, especially when your loved one is a mountain biker – So stop, before you go out
and buy one of those crap Christmas cards with a
picture of a mountain bike on the front that we’ve all
had about fifty million times Check out our list – First up on our list, this
is a banger it solves punctures It’s the Stan’s Dart
system. Neil, please explain – [Neil] Well this is a new take on your tubeless repair kits. You
know when you bosch that in to your tyres. So check that
out. It’s like a fabricy thing that reacts with the sealant to almost form a bond like rubber. So you don’t have to trim them off ’cause its just fabric. That will just rub away when you ride tyre. – Wow! What’s the bit… – Ingenious – So you got this rolling in the tyre anyway. And then
you take this out on the trail and you basically get, you
stick that in the actual hole – [Neil] Exactly. Boom – Now you can’t get a
better present than that, – you really can’t. There
you go, punctures fixed for Christmas – What about some on-bike
storage. Now there’s loads of options for this there’s
those really nice sort of velcro straps. Really handy for
strapping tools to your bike they’re quite cheap. Or,
what’s this one Martyn? – Yeah the Topeak Ninja Cage Series a modular product that’s
obviously a bottle cage which is perfect. But you
can also add things to this to make more storage on your bike – Yeah loads on options,
this is a really neat one so that is a multitool in that sort of nice little
compartment. So that comes out. – [Martyn] That’s a nifty little tool – [Neil] Also you get some
really some really simple things like a little strap
for your tube to go on So if that fits on the
bike that’s a great idea But, if you’ve got a
really nice bottle cage that you like already you
can always get one of these its a universal bracket that
will go on any bottle cage so you get the same
sort of connection there – Genius. Perfect present.
Neil, I’ve got the ultimate budget present for you now. – Yeah? – Boom! Cable ties. Two Pound for a hundred. And you can
do so much with cable ties You can fix bikes, you can
take things on your bike and store them like things under your seat like a tube, using zip ties.
There are the best thing ever – I would be a bit gutted if I got some zip ties for Christmas – Until you needed one – True. Two Pound for a
hundred? That’s very cheap Where’d you get them for that? – Talkin’ you into it. Neil what about something
that will protect your pride and joy from the Christmas grinch? – Well, you need a decent
lock. So I’ve got a couple of things here. The Hiplok
DX. It’s a sort of U-lock you may have seen
something like this before super strong these things
but, what Hiplok are more renowned for is this.
Their sort of ingenious Hip Lock. So this is the Hiplock Lite and so you wear this as a belt. So, when you go off around town you just use the velcro
and strap it like that then when you need to lock your bike up you actually then join,
you know, the big chain – That’s brilliant – Clever thing – [Martyn] That’s brilliant.
You know what I’ve got to admit – right, I’ve literally only
just the hip lock bit of this Amazing. That is brilliant! – Yeah – Cause I was thinking as
you were showing me that listen to it. I mean
you can… its robust. But that’s just such a great solution – Yeah – If someone gave me that
at Christmas I would be like.. big hug time. – Wow – (laughing) – You’re not getting one from me – Perfect present coming
up, another one, mud guards – Nice – You can’t beat mud guards – Cheap as well – Yeah and they look
great if you get it right – Yeah. You can get the GMBN Ass Saver you can get one of those
GMBN Front Mudguards but if you want to big
guns and you want to be like Danny Hart. Run the big Crud XL so you don’t get any mud on your face – [Martyn] Yeah Crud is
really where its at on the mudguard as well cause that’s the original That’s the orignal. Just saying if you want to get it right. I mean… Right now its up the
ante, let’s get to some like, big balls gifts, let’s go massive let’s like, the proper stuff. What we got? – Big balls? Uh, well
this is a steady rack so this is ingenious. So
if you need a good storage system, look it even shows you on the side For hanging your bike on
the wall, which I think – [Martyn] I do anyways – [Neil] It folds away,
but also it folds out you stick your bike onto
it, but then you can rotate it so your bike
leans sort of into the wall so it saves you loads of
space, instead of your bike sticking out into the room, you push it flat against the wall – That is amazing – So if you’ve got a
few bikes, get a couple of these on the wall, stagger them a bit and you can get your bikes
into quite a small space – [Martyn] They must be very
good cause I’m sure I’ve seen them downstairs in the GCN bike locker – [Neil] Yeah – [Martyn] They must be
good. They must be good Oh and a little hat there. Why aren’t you wearing your Christmas hat? – Uh. I couldn’t fit it
on my head I’m afraid Or Martyn, an Ergon saddle.
So a good saddle its essential Getting one that fits is
also essential so you can buy a saddle in different
sizes. Ergon sell this SM Pro. I’ve got one. This is a medium
large, so this may suit Blake I got for the small medium. Depends on the size of your posterior. – Got ya, got ya. But
getting a saddle right can’t beat it really. Can you? – Another good way of
protecting your pride and joy is some frame protection,
so it doesn’t get all scratched up and starts to look old. Couple of options here.
The first one I want to talk about is InvisiFrame,
so this has come from the automotive world. It
is super thin as the name suggests. Its almost
invisible, covers almost all your frame and its
specific to your frame and it’s size so it fits perfectly. – [Martyn] Yeah or if
you want a more generic, a more affordable option we’ve got the all mountain style Honeycomb protection We’ve got it on the GMBN shop actually it looks very cool – I’ve got it on my Canyon
Strive, that has been thrown down a few mountains
and it still look pristine – Yeah it’s workin Now you might want to get a
present that going to help your loved one get out there
next year. And something I noticed you did, Neil,
this year that looked like a lot of fun was bike packing – Yeah I love it. Uh me and
Blake have started doing a bit of it. I absolutely love
it. There’s definitely some bags you can buy like
the front loader or the back loader from Topeak.
Loads of different brands do this. But I would
recommend one thing is the Topeak Bikamper. So this
is the tent that we use that you mount to your
bars and then it uses your bike as the poles
of your tent. No poles super lightweight, its about that big – Goes on the bars. Brilliant present – Yes very cool Now Neil can you imagine anything nicer on Christmas Morn than unveiling
something like this? – That looks fresh – I mean a Poc Tectcal helmet is so nice This is the lids that we
wear. You can’t go wrong with a helmet because it’s protection it’s important. But you
got to get the size right so you maybe need to
investigate a little bit but something like this, what a jewel – Do you know what else
this has got? This has got this Recco system. So this
is come from the Ski world its like, you know when you
get stuck in an avalanche this is so the emergency
services can find you So as a mountain biker that’s very helpful But also you could maybe
stick that on Santa’s sleigh and see where he goes back to so you know exactly where he lives – I didn’t like how you
just took that helmet out of my box. I got to
be honest, this is my one. – Martyn we’ve got to
do some self promotion whilst we’re here of course. GMBN merch we’ve got loads in the store now. We’ve got riding jerseys,
that’s the new Black Friday one love that. Socks, caps,
jerseys, shorts, loads of stuff – [Martyn] Got everything.
I really like this new Black Friday stuff actually.
You fine on the white socks? – [Neil] No. Black socks for me. – Well I like these – I tell you what I what
love for Christmas Martyn – Go on – Hint hint. Some tools. Any tools really, but what about these ParkTool
P-Handle Hex Wrenches – [Martyn] Aw man. If
I had this in my garage I’d be so happy – [Neil] They love it when
you’ve got a little set of tools like that. And they
last you forever. That sort of thing. Tools. A good set of
tools you’ll take to your grave – Yeah. And do you know
what? I’ve tested these out I’ve done the special spin
test, you know when you like spin it in your hand
and its weighted perfectly – Nice – Serious torque. But I’m
going to up you Neil actually Cause I tell you what
I’d like for Christmas I think these are the best
addition to a mountain bike and if you really want to
impress you know that special person in your life this year,
what about a dropper post? – Yeah. One of our most
recommended upgrades so yeah if you know that
your mountain biker in your life needs a drop post. Why not? – [Martyn] I mean the
end of the day you can’t really go wrong with this – Unless you but the
wrong size for the bike, so do your research before you buy one – So actually you can go wrong – You can go wrong What about a bike rack? And guess what? The SeaSucker is ingenious.
It sticks to the top of your car, and it
will fit almost any car as well so you don’t
have to go about buying the right sort of bars and the rack – [Martyn] How do you know
it will fit any car Neil? – [Neil] Cause it fit on my Aston Martin Not my Aston Martin, the
Aston Martin that I was… – You got to have some
faith in this thing to put it on one of those cars – Yeah – Look at it – It was very worrying
driving that car around with my bike on someone
else’s Aston Martin – [Martyn] So the SeeSucker that works – [Neil] And it comes on
and off so you don’t have to run your rack permanently
so you’ve got the advantage of good mpg/s when you don’t want your bike on the roof – [Martyn] Yeah. Not cheap,
but an ingenious present – What the Aston Martin? – Either Neil what about some
stuff to clean your lovely bike that you got for Christmas this year – Yes please once it’s been out in the
mud. Yeah so what about this Green-Oil eco ride
kit. Check this out and I’ll tell you what
it’s got it’s got a bicycle brush in it. Frame
cleaning cloth, an eco rag – [Neil] It’s all eco friendly this stuff – [Martyn] Yeah. Green clean
famously as a reclaimed fizzy drinks cap on the
top and all the 100ml bottles inside are made
from 100% recycled plastic – Great. I love that. – What you think about that?
– Brilliant Something to clean your bike. Perfect – Another brilliant thing
for cleaning your bike is this Worx cordless pressure washer – Oh I’ve seen these – [Neil] These are brilliant,
so rather than use it in like a petrol pressure
washer or even an electric one where you have to get
out of your car to plug it in This uses just a drill
battery, and it’s why I’ve got one of these. I’ve just
got a water bucket outside So water comes off my
roof, lands in this thing I just get the thing out of
my garage, put it on the hose Boom. Using free water,
and I don’t have to plug it into anything or use petrol. – Is it a good jet? – It’s powerful enough
to clean a bike. It’s not mega powerful. But it
is brilliant. I love it – Wicked present Right to finish off Neil,
we’re going to go like, we’re going to big – Probably the most
exciting thing you can buy – Getting some wheels, themselves – [Neil] Proper kids’
bikes from Commencal so I did a vid on their range
recently going from the smallest wheels, balance
bikes. All the way up to their unbelievable,
proper full suspension bikes for kids. So
everything from 20 inch full suspension bikes. You
know the range they’ve got is absolutely brilliant and your kid would be pretty stoked I would
say if they got one of these for Christmas – [Martyn] Yeah I saw
some kids rattling around on these in Whistler this
year because they were bikes that you could
hire out. And the size of the kid and the bike you
just think ‘Oh my word’ what it would have been
like to be riding bikes like that at such a size. Amazing – Jealous – Very cool. Probably the
best present you’re going to give a kid this year I would have thought Neil what about nutrition? That’s really important especially at Christmas – Yeah. – Yeah what about something like this? – That isn’t going to have
pigs in blankets is it? – [Martyn] No this a GCN book this is The Plant Based Cyclist.
Now being a vegan myself I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that I’ve checked this out and I tell you what there’s some brilliant stuff in here. And honestly if I got
something like this for Christmas, please, I’d be very very happy And this might change your
diet going into the New Year – [Neil] What are they saying
about Christmas dinner? – It’s a good idea but you shouldn’t have any pigs or turkeys in it – Alright Martyn that is
a good list of presents for mountain bikes on there.
What’s your favourite? What would you most want
to get for Christmas – Um, I really like the dropper post, that would be an amazing present. I know it’s quite a big present but a dropper post is
a genious idea I think – Ah for me it’s tools. I
think, actually I’m quite lucky I have lots of things, but for me I would always be stoked with tools – Yeah, absolutely. Well
let us know what you’re thinking of getting but
don’t tell that person because you don’t want
to ruin the surprise if you would like to
