Giant Boulder Mountain Bike 2017

Giant Boulder Mountain Bike 2017

Hi, my name’s Greg Griffiths from Ivanhoe
Cycles. I’m here to show you the 2017 Giant Boulder. It’s a recreational mountain bike, so it’s
made for, you know, tracks and paths, trails – recreational riding, but not seriously off-road
mountain biking. This bike has 26 inch wheels, which is the
traditional size for mountain bikes over the past many years, although in recent years
some bikes have gone to a 27 and a half inch wheel, and even some with the 29 inch wheel. But this is a very traditional mountain bike. Ok, this Giant Boulder has 21-speed gears
– which means it has 3 chainrings at the front, 7 cogs at the rear, operated by the gear levers
on the handlebar. For the front we have a small, medium and
a large chainring, operated by the shift lever on the left side of the bar. As you’re pedaling, push the gear lever and
the chain changes from one size cog up to the next. Or if you wish to change down, it’s the lever
at the front of the handlebar – just click that and the gears change down. So it’s a very easy gear shift, even for novice
riders. For the rear, we have a similar operation
at the handlebar. We have the 7 cogs at the rear. So each click of the lever will change the
gears one cog, so it’s quite a precise gear shift. It’s not necessary to find the gear, the gears
automatically go in to the correct position. So changing down is with the finger, and to
change up to an easier gear is with the thumb. Quite easy. And with 21 gears it’s suitable for riding
in almost any terrain. This Giant Boulder has “V” brakes, which are
operated by the brake lever, naturally enough. So application of the brake lever, the pads
are brought in against the rim. The rim has a machined surface on the side,
made from aluminium. The wheels have stainless steel spokes and
the front hub has a quick release axle for easy removal if you get a puncture or you
wish to put the bike in the car and need to take the wheel out. So it’s a really nice bike for younger riders
perhaps who are just getting in to an adult size bike, or for those adults who don’t want
to spend a lot of money and still get decent value for money. So it comes in a range of sizes, so from quite
small people – even 10 and 11 year old children – up to very tall people, there is a frame
size to suit, and they come in a range of colours.
