Freeride Unboxing: Salomon S/Lab Shift MNC 13 (with English subtitles)

We have recieved some boxes from Salomon There are supposed to be a brand new ski binding in these boxes, but I´m not quite sure why there are two boxes… …but we´ll find out! In this video we will unbox the binding we will also go to Salomon and mount the bindning on a pair off skiis. At Salomons office we´ll also meet up with Simon and he will tell us a little more about the new binding and how it has been developed. But let´s start with the unboxing, welcome! Alright, let´s unwrap the new binding “Shift” from Salomon! Shift are described to be the perfect hybrid between a touring and an alpine ski binding. But what´s in this little box? Skistoppers. Two of them. Shift will be released and hit stores in the fall of 2018. Salomon has declared that the retail price will be around 5000 SEK in Sweden (500€/600USD). Ok, main attraction! A guide for mounting Shift. Ehhm, some kind of plate, probably for mountain the heel piece of the binding. Two screws for mounting. Now it´s time for the actual binding! A solid piece for the toe! We can easily se the special thing about Shift here the tech-inserts, the pins, are hidden when the bindning is in ski mode. The DIN-range is from 6-13, Here we can also se the place for crampons. Time for the heel piece of the binding. Feels very alpine. And we can see now that the climbing aids are in the skistoppers. We´ll get a definitive answear on that when we meet up with Simon from Salomon. So…. That was all from the boxes. Let´s get a closer look on everything! Ok, now I´ve mounted the plate, heel piece and skistopper together. Let´s go to Salomon and mount this stuff! Hello! Now we´re at Salomon headquarter in Sweden which is in the beautiful (but rainy) city of Borås. It´s time to mount the hybrid bindning Shift and we´ll do that on a pair of QST99. Come join! Time to mount! To make the Shift has been a long project for us. We have been working with our ambassadors and athletes for 7-8 years. It´s a complex thing to achieve: we want it to be easyt to use, we want it to be safe, we want it to have great power tranistion it also has to work for a big and hybrid mass of skiers that wants to go touring, but also charge downhill! Yes, Shift are on the skis! I will try to tell you a bit about what´s special with this hybrid binding. First of all it´s very easy to switch from walking to skiing mode. Right now it´s in “alpine” mode, for skiing downhill. Easy to click into, like a normal alpine binding. And here… are walking mode. And the nice thing now… even though Shift is totally alpine when skiing. Here in walk mode the pin-tech are unveiled and you can climb uphill. You have all the benefits of tech – with a 90 degree possibility of movement. The climbing aid have two positions, flat and 10 degrees. Here I switch back to skiing mode. Blam! Both heel and toe are totally alpine and ready for charging. Another feature of Shift are the “MNC”. Multi Norm Certified. This means that Shift are compatible with all types of ski boots. The touring boots of Gripwalk, WTR and so on are no problem for Shift to handle… …same thing with normal alpine ski boots. The secrets is the AFD-plate, the Anti Friction Device. This little piece can be adjusted up and down to fit any type of boots. Here is the screw for adjusting the AFD-plate up and down. So that Shift can fit different types of soles. Easy piecy! One more thing about shift. Is the elasticity in the toe. It can travel 47 mm sideways, and that´s by far the most any kind of tech binding can go. It´s even as good as our traditional freeride bindings STH 13 & 16. Alright! The new Shift binding are mounted and ready to go. It´s ready for safe and fun downhill charging and nice and easy climbing uphill. Shift will hit stores in September of 2018, but to wait a bit is a virtue as we say in Sweden. Shift will cost around 5 000 SEK on the swedish market, which is about 500 € or 600 USD. What we have tried to do here is to give you the most safe, fun and hybrid experience of skiing. That is why we created Shift. I hope that you´ll have lot´s of fun with our new binding! Oh, STILL watching! This Unboxing-video is coming to and end right about now. We are in early December 2017 when this is recorded. During winter and spring 2018 we´ll test the Shift binding. What will it deliver downhill and uphill? That test will of course be published on www.Freeride.se and www.Freeride.com. Bye bye, safe turns!
