Folding Project – HEA Finalist 2014

There was a need for a bicycle design that would be able to have the characteristics of a sports bike but with a much more comfortable saddle. As life in a city can be tricky, the bike had to be very lightweight but also had to fold to half its size in one simple movement. It is difficult for someone to carry even the lightest of bikes when moving through the city, so I wanted the bike to slide into its folding position like a stroller. The unique design of this bike, unlike a typical triangular-shaped bike, creates perfect conditions for it to become an electric bicycle too. But what makes it particularly unique are the flat surfaces that arise from the design. The surfaces become a canvas on which, by using several techniques, each rider can decorate his own bike according to his individual taste. It would be very easy to contact manufacturers in Asia to make a cheap bike. The challenge is to be the first Greek folding bike to be designed and manufactured in Greece but also to be made from Greek aluminium. If we win the Hellenic Entrepreneurship Award one thing comes to my mind and that is being rewarded for a very difficult journey which took 3 years of research and development and over 3,500 hours drawing, designing and constructing.
