Cape Epic mountain bike race begins in South Africa

The tenth edition of the Cape Epic mountain
bike race got underway against the backdrop of Meerendal Wine Estate on the outskirts
of Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday. Three-time Cape Epic overall winner Christoph
Sauser dominated the prologue with his new Burry Stander – SONGO team partner Jaruslav
Kulhavy to record the fastest time. The pair clocked just 55 minutes and 10 seconds. Mulitvan Merida riders Jose Hermida and Rudi
van Houts came in second – one minute and seven seconds adrift. In the women’s discipline the pace-setters
were Esther Suss and Jane Nuessli. Meanwhile, in the mixed field discipline Erik
and Ariane Kleinhans won with a lead of over two minutes. The race starts in earnest on Monday with
Stage One departing from Citrusdal.
