Canyon Inflite 9.0S | Winter Bikes Special | Cycling Weekly

This is the Canyon AL Inflite 9.0S. Now,
the Inflite AL is actually Canyon’s aluminium cyclocross frameset and
it’s been kitted out in this case with road going components to make it ideal
for riding in harsh conditions. Cyclocross framesets actually make for
excellent winter road bikes and the reason for this is that they already
have really wide tyre clearance so that you can fit wider tyres and they also
are very versatile in that you can fit components such as mud guards to make them stand up well to dirty riding conditions and the geometry is designed
to offer really stable riding when you’re off road and this translates
brilliantly to winter roads as well. The 7005 aluminium used for
the Inflite frame gives you a lighter weight package for responsive
acceleration and it’s coupled to a Shimano Ultegra groupset with a semi
compact Rotor 3D 30 chainset and wide range cassette, giving you the low
range to ride up steep gradients and the higher ratios needed for speed when
you’re on the flat and with Ultegra components swapping to your winter road
bike doesn’t mean that you need to sacrifice anything in shifting quality. I’m a really big fan of the way the Inflight looks It’s got this industrial,
functional aesthetic that just says to me this is a bike that will get the job
done. The Inflite comes with Continental’s high-end GP 4000 tyres in
28mm width for comfort and grip. They sit really nicely on the quality DT
Swiss disc brake specific wheels and there’s also a 27.2mm
carbon seat post for extra compliance with a comfortably padded Selle Italia
saddle. Winter riding calls for safe stopping regardless of the conditions
and the Inflite AL comes with Shimano RS685 hydraulic disc
brakes for powerful, well modulated braking with comfortable and ergonomic
levers. Canyon fits its own ergonomic alloy bar with the width and drop
dependent on the frame size. There are even differing diameters to the tops to
ensure that the bars are comfortable for the average hand size of different
height riders. The Inflite frameset comes with these mounting points so you
can fit the 35 millimeter mud guards we have here and these have been developed
by SKS in conjunction with Canyon specifically for the Inflite and
they’re optional when you buy the bike and they’re really good with these nice
wide mud flaps and protecting you and the people behind you from road spray
which you may or may not want to do depending on who is following you.
