Bike Riding for Advanced Cyclists : Top Quality Bike Gears

Zoomers Bike and Gear to tell you about advanced cycling. One of the things you’ll notice about
gears on the new bikes are there?s a lot more than there used to be. You start off and there’s
just one single gear, then they moved up to a couple, and then five, six, seven, eight,
and now on the higher end road bikes you’re going to find what you call a ten-speed, where
there’s a cluster of ten gears in the back, and you have the option of having two or three
in the front. The difference is that two is going to be lighter weight and you have two
different options where you can go with a 53 as a big ring and a 39 as a small ring.
That’s more of a power rider. And then you have also the option of a 50 and a 34, which
is called a compact crank, which is going to offer a lot of comfort and a lot of ability
when you’re in the climbing and what not kind of rides. The shifters in the back are all
called derailleurs. You’ve got the rear derailleur and you’ve got the front derailleur, and basically
all it is, is there’s just a spring system that moves them back and forth, and they have
what they call limit screws, which you’re going to set those so they don’t go over.
What makes this a step up over the ones that are just normal ones that you buy for a couple
hundred dollars is, the gears on this one are made with titanium, aluminum, so it’s
going to be a lot lighter weight, and it’s going to be shifting a lot smoother. You notice
it’s going to have a little bit different gauges on it. The spindles are going to be
made with sealed bearings versus just a piece of metal inside a piece of plastic. All right,
now the shifters on the bikes have changed quite a bit from the down tube shifters being
down here. They are now up in the brake levers. The nice thing about that is it keeps your
hands on the bike, so it makes you feel more comfortable and makes you feel better about
riding the bike, and safer as well. The way that they work is just by moving the brake
lever over to the side, and then there’s another little lever in the back that you push to
drop it back down. It’s a very technical thing which has a lot of stuff in it, but they’re
very simple and easy to use, and it makes the ride a whole lot easier and a whole lot
better.
