Big Bearpark Bike Bash | Cycling

So, we have been on Turbo Bikes and we have
been doing cool adventures on bikes with Bike and Burn and we ride really good, but all
you have to do is do you best and don’t give up. We decided to hold a cycling event at Bearpark
Primary, mainly to get the children involved more in cycling.
We felt it was a good way for the children to become more active, getting them out the
house, we have some fantastic cycleways around Bearpark and this was the first steps on the
way of getting the children out and about, on the cycles along the cycle routes.
The project has been a huge project for Bearpark school, it has involved all one hundred and
forty children going on bikes. We have had some learn to ride sessions for
the Nursery children and Reception children using balance bikes. We have had some skill
sessions for our Key Stage One children and for our Key Stage Two children we have been
doing some skill sessions and some local rides around the beautiful countryside. So, on the bikes we learned with Ben and he
was showing us about all the gears, and first of all we started on the yard in pairs, and
then we started on the field, and then we went in the woods, and we went all the way
to Langley Park. I think there are so many benefits that the
children can gain from cycling. The obvious ones are fitness, but also a confidence
in terms of road safety, understanding more about the environment. They have had so many
activities going on including, you know, cycling safety, cycling ability, bike ability programmes,
as well as different competitions and riding from Lands’ End to John O Groats on a Turbo
Bike that’s pretty impressive. The Turbo bikes have been set up in school
so that we can all work together to reach the distance of John O Groats to Land’
s End which is one thousand, four hundred and seven kilometres. We spent since the first
of July to today working together and hopefully when the adventurous cyclists from Year Four
return this afternoon we will have reached our target.
Everybody in Bearpark Primary has had a lot of fun on the Turbo Bike and everybody’s
joined in, that’s what makes it a good thing to do.
