Bicycle Tips & Maintenance : How to Buy a Hybrid Bike

Hi, this is Jeff from the Two Wheeler Dealer,
and I’m going to talk with you about how to purchase a hybrid bike, and different things
to consider when shopping for them. First thing, there’s two main types of hybrid bikes.
One’s going to have a twenty-six inch wheel, which is going to be this one here, which
is the same wheel size as a mountain bike. The other is going to have a seven-hundred
C wheel which is the same size as a road bike. Seven-hundred C being a larger diameter wheel.
It’s going to give you faster, or more speed on the road. Just because it is a larger circumference
wheel, for every revolution it’s going to travel further. However, at the same time
it’s going to be a little weaker of a wheel, just because the spokes themselves are longer,
allows it to flex a little more. So it’s not going to hold up to off-road abuse as well
as a twenty-six inch wheel. You can also see that both of these are different widths. This
tire, the twenty-six inch, being wider is going to be little more suited towards riding
on a gravel path or hard pack. As where the seven hundred C is narrower just for speed
on the pavement. The other thing would be, to consider whether or not you want a suspension
fork. Most twenty-six inch wheeled hybrids do come with a suspension fork, as where the
seven hundred C’s some do some don’t. The main thing being with the suspension fork
is that it’s going to add a little bit of comfort to your ride, however, it’s also going
to add a little bit of additional weight. These are a few differences to consider when
shopping for a new hybrid bike.
