Hey. Ben here from Ivanhoe Cycles and
today I’ve got the 2018 Giant Talon 2. The Giant Talon 2 is an excellent
recreational mountain bike. It’s perfect for many different kinds of trails.
It has front suspension and it’s got a 27.5 inch wheel. Now,
the Talon comes in three different levels of quality – you could say. There’s
the Talon 1, the Talon 2, the Talon 3. Obviously this is the Talon 2. So,
let’s have a look at a few features that differ it from the other Talon models.
Probably the biggest difference is in the drivetrain. If we compare the Talon
3 to the Talon 2 – this one’s running a Shimano Deore drivetrain, so the step
up in quality here is quite significant and you’re going to notice the shifting
and through the gears is much smoother, and much more efficient than it is on the
Talon 3. The other factor in this is it’s lighter weight and it’s going to last
longer. So it’s definitely a sign to look out for. Another key factor of the Talon 2 is the suspension. Now, this is also running an SR Suntour fork, but this one
is the XCM model. It’s the next step up from the Talon 3. The Talon 2 has a
hydraulic disc brake and an ALUXX aluminium frame. Another key feature about
the Talon 2 is that it has the internal cable routing. This adds to the
aesthetics of the bike and makes it look a lot nicer.
Another key different feature from the Talon 3 and the Talon 2 is – with the
Talon 2 – it’s actually only got two sprockets on the front. So this is
difference and if you have a look at the higher-end mountain bikes, a lot of them
are leaning only to a single sprocket on the front. This is going to save weight and
make it a lighter bike but with this one you’ve got a different setup. You’re
gonna find that climbing the hills is still easy but the bike doesn’t feel as
“clunky” and it shifts smoother.
